The S4 – Just Another Smartphone?

Just when you thought you were happy with your S3 or iPhone 5, Samsung decide to release the Samsung Galaxy S4, complete with the threat of a bigger screen and better resolution, a faster processor and features you never even knew you’d missed.

Size & Shape

The S4 looks a lot like the S3, just bigger – it’s got the same rounded edges but stands at 5.4 inches tall by 2.7 inches wide. It’s 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display is highly sensitive, allowing long-fingernailed and even gloved users to navigate skillfully.

Check out this video for a sneaky look:

What about Apps?

The S4 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the S4 has kept features from the S2 (multiview mode) and S3 (social collaborative features that allow users to share music, photos and documents). They have introduced the S Health, a calorie-counter/pedometer that uses phone sensors to track steps, food intake and even perspiration. It even comes with Samsung-branded fitness wrist bands!

Certain games lik Gun Bros 2 and Ashphalt 7 have been specifically adapted for the S4, with Samsung releasing an SDK allowing other game developers to jump on board in the future.

S Voice Drive is another new feature. Designed for in-car use, it allows drivers to use the handset’s built-in navigation system as well as make calls and send messages, which is handy when lost ☺

One of my favourites is Smart Pause, which stops media playing when your eyes are not on the screen. It will restart when you resume looking at the screen. Uf you are reading something on a website, tilting your screen will tell your S4 to scroll up/across for you.

Let’s not forget the camera!

The S4’s 13 megapixel camera is a huge step up fro the S3’s 8 megapixel camera. Storage-wise, the S4 has 64GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card slot tht can store up to 64GB in external memory.

The S4 has a whole unch of enhanced features, like Sound & Shot, which takes a picture as well as capturing u to 9 seconds of audip, and Drama Shot, which combines all actions from a burst of activity into one single frame (i.e. someone doing a big jump). There is even an Erasor mode, which lets you erase someone from your photo.

Check out some pics of the phone itself!

Heard enough? Can’t wait to get your hands on it? Release date is set for the second quarter this year – but as soon as we’ve got it, you will know! You will see it up on Sold.sg and Sold.my in no time! We’ll keep you posted – but in the meantime, quick poll: Are you going to trade your phone in for the S4?
